Spider Solitaire Tips & Strategy

• Prioritize moves that flip a face-down card over moves that just rearrange cards you can already see — a hidden card is new information and a new option, while shuffling exposed cards rarely changes what's actually possible.
• Only a run of consecutive cards in the same suit moves as a group — a descending sequence that mixes suits looks tidy but will only move one card at a time. In the 2 and 4 suit games, build same-suit sequences deliberately instead of just following descending rank.
• Keep at least one empty column open whenever you can, and try to create a second one before you need it. An empty column is your only way to temporarily park a card or run while you dig out something underneath — spending your last one on a move that isn't necessary can leave you stuck.
• Deal from the stock only when you're out of better options. A new deal adds one card on top of every column, burying whatever's exposed there, and it can't be undone — clear as many face-down cards and safe in-suit moves as possible first.
• Work on columns with the fewest face-down cards left before digging into deeper ones. A column that's one or two cards from empty pays off sooner and gives you maneuvering room faster than a column that's still five cards deep.
• When you have a choice of where to place a single card, prefer a same-suit card of the next-highest rank over an off-suit one, even though both are legal. It keeps the sequence combinable as one unit later, instead of leaving an off-suit card sitting in the middle of it.
• Before breaking up a same-suit run to reach a card underneath it, check whether another column can take the blocking card instead — undoing your own sequencing progress should be a last resort, not the first move you try.
• In the 1 suit game every card is compatible, so the "strategy" is almost entirely about exposing hidden cards and freeing columns — suit-matching only becomes a real decision, and the main source of difficulty, once you move up to 2 or 4 suits.
